Rosy Periwinkle | Madagascar Periwinkle
Catharanthus roseus | Apocynaceae
The Madagascar periwinkle known by the botanical name as Catharanthus roseus (earlier herbals and Materia Medica's refer to it as Vinca rosea) is one of the many plants that have generated recent interest in the scientific and medical communities around the world.
The scientific and medical communities became interested in the properties of the herb sometime in the middle of the 1950's.
The flower colour seems to vary with soil acidity.
The more alkaline the soil, the more pink the flower becomes.
There is no chemical change in the plant, medicinally though.
