Traditional Chinese Medicinal discussion

Chinese Foxglove  |     Rehmannia glutinosa

Mature flower

Able to survive quite well in Australia from Cairns to Venus Bay, this beautiful herb is grown specifically for the root.

It spends Autumn and Winter as a rosette on the ground, but in Spring, it sends forth multiple spires that produce flowers through until mid summer.

In many southern climates it is actually herbaceous and this must not be confused with the death of the plant.

Not much of a seed producer, it spreads via underground runners, eventually establishing a 'patch' that can last for decades.
